This must be exactly what it would have been like to write a blog in the dark ages! We live in exciting times. Anyway here goes:
A few years ago I read a story on the internet about China’s rapid economic growth and the impact on the global economy, oil reserves, and the world food supply.
It was stated that China was boosting local food production (smart move) and intended to make huge purchases of grain from the US and other sources. Needless to say that would create a problem for tiny countries like Trinidad and Tobago who couldn’t dream of outbidding China, the world’s second largest economy, according to Reuters.
In the succeeding years I have seen administrations come and go and the price of food leap and bound its way upward with hardly anyone making mention of the impending doom we are facing. Now today we are finally hearing talk of food shortages, as if the situation has taken us completely by surprise. (Well it did if your head was up your a$$)
Of course there are still things we could do, like make trade deals with our neighbors, but we don’t have a very good reputation when it comes to that. Venezuela for one, offered to provide us with cheaper prices on oil (yes we buy oil) in exchange for gas. Did we take the deal? Check your electric bill for the 100% increase coming soon.
